With the season half way through, let’s take a look back at the season.
In the beginning of the new season the team quickly learned what they could and couldn’t do. Change in the form of the coach, team and injury plagued the Sixers this season. With the addition of Elton Brand and the promise that he had on bettering the team, then to have him get hurt and now on leave for the rest of the season.
Also, the team had a huge shake up firing of Mo Cheeks and the Hiring of Tony DiLeo. This point of the season the team was starting to fall apart and on a losing streak.
Then with the start of January the team left their cold streak behind. 2009 seemed to light a fire under them, winning record of seven consecutive wins. Of the 15 the Sixers held 10 wins.
This lucky spree didn’t seem to last long. After the All Star break the Sixers lost the first three games back and has acquired another injured player. Unlike Brand, Andre Miller strained his right calf but has still continued to play.
With the changes that have gone on over the past five months here are my top five things that have helped, hurt and made the season thus far interesting to watch:
Marreese Speights – Not to sounds bias but this 245 lb., 6’10” player came from nowhere. He wasn’t much used during the beginning of the season but has come out of the woodwork to do some great work for the team.
Change in Coach – Tony DiLeo has realized our strengths and weaknesses and helped to improve the team.
Elton Brand – In the beginning of the season everyone thought that he would be a saving grace to the team but in truth he didn’t really change much but cost the team a lot of money.
The Andre double – If anyone hasn’t noticed the double team of Iguodala and Miller is crucial. At different points throughout this season this duo has made some incredible plays.
The young- in’s - Lou Williams, Thaddeus Young and Marreese Speights are the hidden talents of the team. Being as young as they are they weren’t seen as good players until the recent change of coach.
So what does the future hold for this young team? Let’s just hope a few more wins.
