AHHHHHHHH Stressed? For college students, stress is a routine. But what do you do when you’re stressed?
There are ways to alleviate stress even when you are bombarded with work. Instead of allowing the ten-page papers and the final exam study guides to take hold of your blood pressure, take a few minutes and remember that it is only work, and all work eventually gets done.
Walk away from your project; take a break from your work or even a 20-minute nap. It will help you refocus and give you a spurt of energy. Although naps are a way of rebuilding energy this does not mean all nighters are a good idea. Make sure to get a good night’s sleep. Believe it or not, all nighters actually make your stress level skyrocket and eventually drain you much more than any morning cram session would.
Stress builds up when you keep it all inside. Let out your stress in any way possible. It can come out in any form. Exercise is one of the best ways to calm your nerves. Do some push-us or go for a run. Exercise takes your focus off of the build-up of work and on another activity.
Not into running? Yoga is one of the best remedies for exam week. It helps you forget about your problems and stress and teaches you to calm yourself even before the stress takes over. Your local gym or school should offer these classes.
We all procrastinate at some point in our lives, but that isn’t always the way to deal with stress. Get your work done progressively. If you have a project that is due in a week, sit down for an hour a night until it’s complete. It will be a lot less stressful for you to do it that way than to do it all the night before. It will also be a lot more creative because you will have had time to think it through.
Still stressed even thinking about stress? Talking to a parent, friend or relative about your stress is another great way to take control.
Realizing you are stressed out is not a bad thing. Whatever it is, you need to find something that works for you. Remember, you are the sole commander or your own body.
The only person that can relieve your stress is you. Just remember—relax! It will only help you through your remaining weeks of the semester.
