Fall is always a great season for new music. After a summer of touring and/or recording, many artists try to pump out a new release prior to their winter tours.
This season is especially exciting because many of these albums have had a lot of hype surrounding them for a while. A few of these bands are returning to form, while some have been constant for a long time.
Regardless, with a lineup like this, it's going to be a good couple of months.
First off, Mariachi El Bronx was released on Sept. 1, and if you have yet to get a hold of that, you're missing out.
For those out of the loop, Mariachi El Bronx is the Mariachi incarnation of the L.A. hardcore punk band The Bronx. It's easily the most surprising move I've seen from any band in a long time, and it manages to be an amazing record in the process.
On Sept. 15, Thrice is releasing a physical copy of their long awaited follow-up to their innovated Alchemy Index series. The record is called Beggars and it's been out on iTunes for almost a month after the album was prematurely leaked on the internet.
For those who have already purchased the digital copy, the physical copy of the album still offers some nice surprises, such as b-sides of the record and a cover of "Helter Skelter" by The Beatles.
The week after that, Brand New (who is on tour with Thrice) is releasing their much hyped about album, Daisy. This is a band that has managed to continuously surprise everyone with their own power of reinvention, and this record will no doubt continue to prove that.
On Sept. 29, AFI is finally releasing their album that has been in the works for almost two years, entitled Crash Love.
After the misstep that was Decemberunderground, we can only hope that this record is a return to form of this once great band.
Switching gears into the realm of indie-rock, Oct. 6 will mark the release of yet another record by Lou Barlow entitled Goodnight Unknown.
You may know Barlow from both Dinosaur Jr. and Sebadoh, however this record appears to be unlike both bands entirely.
When listening to both of the songs that have been released thus far on Barlow's Myspace page, one can't help but bring to mind folk artists such as Nick Drake .
On that same day is the seventh record from Built to Spill entitled There is No Enemy. It will feature guest appearances from members of Quasi, Treepeople and The Butthole Surfers.
On Oct. 20, the post-rock band Do Make Say Think will release their sixth full length album entitled Other Truths. The album will include only four tracks, with each track title being named a word from the bands name.
Oct. 27 will see the release of Weezer's seventh studio record, which has one of the best album titles in a long time, Raditude. The origins of the title apparently come from a conversation between Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo, and "The Office" star Rainn Wilson.
The final great release from this fall season will be a self titled release from Say Anything. The album was going to be released on Oct. 13, but the date was pushed back to Nov. 3.
Singer Max Bemis has made references to the date being pushed back on his Twitter account, but has yet to give an exact reason. Regardless, the release should be one of the more definitive of the season.
So whether it's on iTunes or in your favorite local record store (like Philly favorites AKA Music and Repo Records), you should make sure to pick up at least one of these releases.
