The Hangover Delivers Hilarity
by Brittany McLeod, Cabrini '09

Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis are all names you probably haven’t heard very often. But that is exactly what makes The Hangover the comedy of the summer.

Todd Phillips (Old School, Road Trip) brings us another instant classic with a story about a Vegas bachelor party gone wrong when Phil (Cooper), Stu (Helms) and Alan (Galifianakis) lose Doug (Justin Bartha), the bachelor.

The movie leaves them, and the audience, searching for clues to piece the night together and get Doug back in time for his wedding.

As they realize the groom is missing—along with Stu’s front tooth—the boys find themselves surprised by the night’s events. And as they uncover more and more evidence, the more trouble they find they are in.

From a wedding of their own, to a run in with Mike Tyson, The Hangover delivers non-stop hilarity with a clever script, sure to be sprinkled with some improvisation.

A movie the Hollywood Reporter calls, “a piercingly funny, twisted ‘whatever-happens-in-Vegas’ caper that can’t be faulted for not taking full advantage of its R rating...a surefire breakout turn by Zach Galifianakis,” couldn’t be more of a hit.

Galifianakis’ role is one that includes a socially awkward and just plain weird brother of the bride, who plays probably one of the funniest characters I’ve ever seen.

The chemistry between the entire cast is obvious, and it’s truly what makes the film work. Each turn of events is genuinely amusing and leaves you wanting more. I don’t think I stopped laughing from beginning to end.

It’s surprisingly not as raunchy as one would think, just a good old fashioned, still stereotypical Vegas comedy. I definitely give it two big thumbs up!

An instantly quotable film, The Hangover is one worth seeing to start off your summer. You’ll absolutely to leave the theater with your cheeks hurting. Insider tip: be sure to stay for the credits.
