Falcons' Vick Now an Eagle
by Jamey Hindorff, Temple '09

Just over halfway through the second quarter this past Thursday, the Link transformed from sports arena to middle school cafeteria.

Instead of witnessing Tom Brady throw a touchdown pass, the entire stadium was glued to their Blackberrys and iPhones. Status updates and tweets everywhere were talking about the same thing—the Eagles had just signed Michael Vick.

The majority of fans in section 225 seemed exited about the new acquisition, but others were outright livid.

For those of you who have been living under a rock, the former star quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons was recently released from an 18 month stint in prison for financing a dog fighting operation out of his Virginia estate. The authorities found 54 pitbulls alive and many more that were buried in the ground.

Vick may not be able to play for the Birds until week six due to a partial suspension that will eventually be lifted by Commissioner Roger Goodell.

It will be interesting to see how Andy Reid chooses to use Vick, who is notorious for his blazing speed and elusiveness. He may end up playing wide receiver or halfback even.

After the game Reid made it clear that there will be no quarterback controversy and that starting quarterback Donovan McNabb had actually nudged the front office to make the deal.

With the fiasco that was Terrell Owens still fresh on the minds of Eagles fans everywhere, one has to wonder if the city is ready for another media circus.

For now, let’s just hope Vick was doing his push-ups while in the big house.
