Best of the Boy Bands
We all remember the era of the boy band.
Who could say no to groups of cute guys professing their love through songs? We all had our favorites. You know, the ones we wrote “Mrs.” before on our notebooks, the ones we rigged MASH to pick for us every time. But amidst all the swooning and fawning were politics. There were certain rules to follow and ultimate loyalties were to be professed and never reneged (for example, you couldn’t like Backstreet Boys AND NSync and if you did…well, you had to watch your back.)
Almost every girl in the universe (and some guys I’m now discovering) jumped on the boy band wagon back in the late 90s. Some of us are still on it. I remain to this day an unabashed Backstreet Boys fan. Yes, they are still together, recording and touring and just as devastatingly handsome as ever. And back in what I like to call the Dark Ages (when BSB was on hiatus), a lovely little group by the name of O-Town served as a great substitute for the boy band fix I desperately needed daily.
While I have expanded my musical taste beyond choreography and ballads, these boys will always hold a special place in my heart. Here is one of many mix tapes made in their honor.
O-Town – From the Damage
Backstreet Boys – Everybody (Backstreet’s Back): Radio Edit
2gether – U + Me = Us (Calculus)
Westlife – Swear it Again
Backstreet Boys – I Want It That Way
Hanson – MmmBop
BBmak – Back Here
Backstreet Boys – The Call
NSync – Girlfriend Remix (featuring Nelly)
LFO – Summer Girls
Backstreet Boys – Climbing the Walls
NSync – It’s Gonna Be Me
Backstreet Boys – Treat Me Right
O-Town – Love Should Be a Crime
Honorable Mention:

“Baby, when the night goes out...”
*awkward silence*
