Bamboozle Road Show

The Bamboozle Road Show came through Philadelphia on April 26 to a sold out show at the Theatre of the Living Arts.

Fans waited in the heat for hours before doors opened just to get themselves a decent spot once inside. Teenagers piled into the venue; bum rushing the stage as security yelled “no running” (which the teens only ignored).

After an hour of waiting and anticipation, Mercy Mercedes took the stage to a ridiculous amount of screaming. A few fans along the barrier sang to the energetic five-piece with waving arms and enthusiastic jumping.

Although their set only lasted a mere 15 minutes, it was packed with a punch that got the crowd ready for the rest of the bands performing that night.

Never Shout Never was the next act to take the stage and it was made obvious that everyone in the venue was completely stoked to see front man Christofer Drew.

He graced the stage alone at first, ukulele in hand, and serenaded the audience with his cute and poppy tunes. Glancing around the venue it was obvious that this 17 year old from Missouri is making a killing – there was Never Shout Never merch and posters everywhere.

I was pleasantly surprised when Drew dedicated a cover of The Beatles’ “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” to all of the parents in attendance (and it was actually really well done).

The crowd seemed to get what they were waiting for when he launched into his set’s closer, “Bigcitydreams,” and the entire audience sang along. It was obvious that Drew loves what he’s doing which only added to his already decent performance.

The Cab was the third band in the tour’s lineup and surprised me with how well they performed live.

Front man Alex Deleon had no problem getting right up in fans’ faces and lending them the mic to sing songs with him. Other members of the band grinned at the audience, making it obvious that the Philly crowd was making their night.

They performed their cover of Rihanna’s “Disturbia” and fan favorite “Bounce” that got everyone in the venue moving. As The Cab exited the stage, it was obvious that they left their fans satisfied.

When We The Kings took the stage for their set the screams coming from the audience almost drowned out the early guitar strums from their opening song.

Front man Travis Clark entered the stage to a series of shrieks coming from the audience, which only made his smile larger. From beginning to end, every member of the band made sure they covered every inch of the stage.

The highlight of their set came the four-piece band surprised the audience with a cover of Jimmy Eat World’s “The Middle” that was truly incredible. Clark’s vocals could barely be heard over the crowd’s enthusiastic singing right along with him.

We The Kings finished their set off right with their popular tracks “Skyway Avenue” and “Check Yes, Juliet.” As the band left the stage, they couldn’t thank their fans enough for being so great.

As the final act of the night, Forever The Sickest Kids took the stage in a way that only they could pull off – toy guns in their hands for a Western-style shoot out.

After collapsing on the ground and lingering for a minute, the band popped up and grabbed their instruments and launched into “Hey Brittany.” I couldn’t stand still as the six-piece band danced and jumped around the stage, throwing their energy in everyone’s faces.

They played a medley of a few of their tracks including “Woah Oh (Me vs Everyone)” and “Uh Huh.” The audience went absolutely crazy every time vocalist Jonathan Cook approached the barrier and he grinned the entire time.

The band chatted with the audience every opportunity they got, expressing how much they love Philly and even teaching the crowd a new word – “glort” (meaing “good looking out right there” and used when someone tells you something that benefits yourself).

They played their extremely catchy tracks “The Way She Moves,” “Believe Me I’m Lying” and the soft, acoustic and beautiful “Phone Call.” As I watched the band from the back of the venue, I couldn’t stop myself from dancing.

Forever The Sickest Kids owned the TLA and outperformed everyone on the Bamboozle Road Show’s lineup. I couldn’t stop smiling as I left the venue and I can’t stop thinking about how amazing they are live now.

Don’t miss Forever The Sickest Kids at this year’s Warped Tour on July 17. They’re sure to turn it into a dance party there as well!
